Job Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the GSE and Tools Engineering team in the UK, providing world class solutions to Airbus customers worldwide and supporting the growth ambitions of Airbus in the services environment. If you like connecting transnationally and supporting our customers in their maintenance and operations of Airbus Aircraft
The role of the GSE and Tools Engineer - Design is to lead the technical delivery of a suite of GSE projects from concept through to delivery and on aircraft validation. The role is cross-programme and covers GSE and Tooling for ATA’s 28, 32 and 57. The position works across design and engineering functions and the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across all aspects of the development cycle and technical oversight of subcontractors for some elements of the development. The role will be a focal point for all internal and externally impacted stakeholders.
About Us
The role reports to the HO GSE & Tools Engineering UK, part of the wider GSE and Tools Engineering department within customer services (SIM). The Airbus GSE and Tools Team is a vital part of the Airbus customer services team that supports all Airbus customers in their operation of our products and generates additional revenue through sales via SATAIR. It is a transnational team with design offices in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and India and covers all Airbus Commercial Aircraft programmes.
What you’ll be doing
Leading the development and delivery of GSE and Tools Projects from initial concept through to manufacturing and on aircraft validation
Identify improvements in existing designs where materials and / or manufacturing processes could be improved
Support generation of business case for new ideas / concepts with engineering view on internal costs and planning
Actively support the engineers in project planning and early forecasting where the plan is not being achieved
Support customers in their queries and providing solutions where ones don’t currently exist
Work closely with maintenance programmes and repairs teams to proactively identify new GSE solutions that may be required in the future
Complete technical drawings to a high standard and complete 4 eyes checks on drawings completed by other team members and / or subcontractors prior to release
Support engineering team in development of presentation packs for design reviews
Be a member of transnational working groups set up to drive improvements in both our products and ways of working
Required Skills
A Degree in Engineering or equivalent on the job training and experience
Ability to create concept designs and drawings in 3D CAD software (CATIA V5)
Understanding of A/C DMU
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Airbus commercial aircraft
A self starter who is able to take initiative and work proactively
Intermediate Project Management Skills in planning, budgeting and delivery (or willingness to learn)
Knowledge and experience in composites (Advantageous)
Knowledge and experience of additive manufacturing (Advantageous)
Some experience in stress analysis (Advantageous)
Prior knowledge of Ground Support Equipment and Tools (Advantageous)
High level of computer literacy (including G-Suite tools)
The role will require a level of occasional travel within Europe and as such you should be able and willing to travel accordingly
