The Development Machining Operations (DMO) Leader will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and company objectives while leading a team to deliver on key products. This discipline develops and executes robust processes for manufacturing development from development to production. In the role, you will lead cross-functional collaboration for manufacturing across functions from concept to production, ensuring proper integration and execution to meet targets on safety, quality, delivery and cost. You will drive strategic utilization of resources to develop/execute manufacturing & technology working collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Operations and Quality. Guided by business operating policy, you will have autonomy within the operational segment and may have major impact on a business unit, function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Development Machining Operations (DMO) team, fostering technical expertise, operational rigor, innovation, collaboration, and alignment to business goals
  • Develop and own long term investment strategy, multi-year budgets and operating plans for DMO.  Ensure adequate funding and staffing for work scope, manage spending and throughput, meet monthly and annual targets.
  • Coordinate producibility engineering concurrently with product development teams to ensure manufacturability and process readiness. Identify and mitigate risks early to meet targets through the lifecycle.
  • Working with engineering and production teams, develop and optimize manufacturing operations through process development including tooling and equipment, continuous improvements, process capability and production control.
  • Bring strong experience in technology and manufacturing process maturation, pilot demonstration and change management.
  • Work across functions to manage project scope, budgets and funding, resources, milestones and timelines for program execution plans, business contracts, continuous improvements and strategic goals.
  • Deliver on priorities ensuring effective management of tasks, risk mitigation, meet project milestones, while being accountable for deliverables to stakeholders
  • Demonstrate leadership during reviews, discussions and meetings with the stakeholders and customers, navigating business processes and managing risks.
  • Have open and effective communication, bring clarity and transparency, influence and resolve escalations to meet business targets.
  • Grow talent by matching skills with work scope needs and leading career development and talent initiatives.
  • Partner with FLIGHT DECK and other people leaders in Product Validation to lead implementation of FLIGHT DECK and a lean, problem solving culture.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 years engineering, manufacturing or operations experience
  • Demonstrated ability as a people leader.

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college in electrical engineering, mechanical/manufacturing engineering, aerospace engineering, production / industrial engineering or related engineering field or masters degree from an accredited university or college in applied science, physics, or mathematics.
  • Current DoD Secret (or greater) Clearance.
  • Established project management skills.
  • Prior experience in Aerospace manufacturing processes and materials, component manufacturing and assembly.
  • Diverse expertise in any of these technical disciplines – machining, fabrication, joining, castings and forgings, composites, additive, digital, inspection and quality, cost engineering and automation.
  • People leadership experience.
  • Masters degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial/Production Engineering.
  • Strategic thinker with domain expertise; Problem solving and resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
