Job Summary:
The NSA Project Coordinator is responsible for ensuring transparency in No Surprises Act audits, project tracking, payer issue tracking by protecting patients from unexpected medical bills, in accordance with federal law. The Project Coordinator will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage timelines, and serve as the subject matter expert on NSA requirements.
Responsibilities Include:
- Track, analyze, and report audit findings related to No Surprises Act (NSA) compliance, with a specific focus on adherence to statutory timelines by IDR Entities, payers, and providers throughout the dispute resolution and billing process.
- Monitor and assess implementation of key NSA components such as IDRE Select Changes within the Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) processes.
- Lead and manage end-to-end NSA audit engagements, including audit planning, testing of operational controls, and documentation of compliance with statutory timelines and notice delivery standards.
- Design and execute internal audit frameworks to assess compliance with the No Surprises Act (NSA), including protections against balance billing and out-of-network cost-sharing violations.
- Track, analyze, and report audit findings related to NSA requirements, ensuring timely development and execution of change process plans
- Evaluate internal processes to ensure adherence to federal requirements under Title I, Division BB of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, and associated interim final rules from HHS, DOL, and Treasury.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including legal, compliance, revenue cycle, billing, provider relations, payer contracting, and IT teams to operationalize NSA mandates and close compliance gaps.
- Perform detailed audits of provider-patient communications, explanation of benefits (EOBs), and out-of-network billing practices to ensure full alignment with NSA transparency provisions.
- Analyze payer behavior and IDR Entity determinations to identify trends, systemic risks, or improper denials related to NSA-eligible claims and dispute resolutions.
- Prepare and present high-quality audit reports with actionable recommendations for executive leadership, emphasizing risk mitigation and ongoing NSA compliance strategies.
- Provide real-time regulatory intelligence and guidance to internal departments based on federal updates from CMS, HHS, DOL, and the Department of the Treasury.
- Ensure operational policies are continuously updated to reflect the latest federal guidance, FAQs, and court rulings impacting NSA provisions and enforcement.
- Lead targeted audits of high-risk NSA domains such monthly balance billing review
- Support the maintenance of enterprise-wide NSA compliance documentation, audit trails, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with federal expectations.
- Participate in strategic initiatives and internal committees to guide the organization’s approach to change processes
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Supports company Safety Management System activities.
- Comply with company HS&E policies and procedures.
- Understands and provides visible support of Destination Zero
Schedule/Location:
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in medical collections or healthcare revenue cycle management.
- 1+ year in an SME, leadership or supervisory role preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payer policies.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare billing systems and payer portals.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- This position is designated Safety Sensitive for purposes of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.
