The Manager of Maintenance Planning is responsible for the overall aircraft Line maintenance planning activities of 737NGs, 737MAX, Q400 and 787 to ensure they meet regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
Leadership - Planning Department
- Oversee the Line Maintenance Planning Team by providing guidance, coaching through barriers / challenges along with celebrating milestones / achievements.
- Execution of strategic maintenance plan(s) as brought forward by the Vice President of Technical Operations, the Director of Maintenance Operations and Technical Fleet Planning
- Maintain compliance through established policies and procedures associated to WestJet, Technical Operations and Maintenance Planning Department, while ensuring the Maintenance Planning department remains in alignment.
- Ensure regulatory compliance is met by ensuring WestJet’s Maintenance Schedule Approval for all Regional, Narrow Body and Wide Body aircraft are adhered by in accordance with published content.
- Ensure Configuration Maintenance Procedures (CMP), Airworthiness Limitations (AWL), Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) and ETOPS requirements are tracking within the Computerized Maintenance Tracking System (CMTS) to meet regulatory compliance.
- Validating accomplishment of technical work in accordance with WestJet’s Maintenance Schedule Approval and working with other Maintenance Management Team members to adjust where necessary.
- Monitor aircraft utilization by fleet type to ensure aircraft compliance to Maintenance Schedule Approval per Narrow Body and Wide Body Type.
- Focus on daily operations to maintain fleet readiness to support the commercial team with network execution.
- Work with the Maintenance Planning Team to identify and implement workforce efficiencies, where necessary.
- Manage network conflicts between commercial operations and maintenance operations.
- Oversee the creation of dashboards to display relevant information related to airline KPI metrics
- Amend and develop relevant policies for the department
Budget & Costs & Contracts
- Work with Senior Manager of Heavy Planning and Director of Engineering to maintain a 5 year forecast of planned maintenance to assist with cost forecasting.
- Preparation and administration of department budget, along with monitoring and reporting out variances.
- Work with Line Maintenance leaders to assist in determining line maintenance requirements and associated costs.
- Proactively look for ways to increase maintenance efficiencies.
Other Requirements
- Work in conjunction with Maintenance Programs Department on ensuring the Maintenance Schedule Approval and Maintenance Planning Document are reflected within the Computerized Maintenance Tracking Software.
- Work in conjunction with Maintenance Programs on the development and amendment of task cards.
- Work in conjunction with Production and Maintenance Engineering to ensure maintenance tasks are distributed into adequate packages for applicable workload.
- Work in conjunction with the Senior Manager Maintenance Control for all MEL priorities
Safety & Miscellaneous
- Complete all duties with the highest level of safety and report any condition or process which may adversely affect safety, as noted in MCM.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in airline planning. Minimum 10 years in airline operations.
- Be able to demonstrate adequate knowledge of industry practices and understand the responsibilities associated with the position.
- Experience in the performance or direct supervision of maintenance activities of the type undertaken by the organization, at least six months of which shall have been obtained within the preceding two years.
- Hold a valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (M, E or S).
- Proven leadership experience, in coaching and mentoring.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Maintenance Policies and Procedures established by WestJet and Technical Operations,
- Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada - Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- General knowledge of HR practices ie: Ability Management and Performance Management.
- Strong computer skills using Maintenance programs ie: TRAX and Citrix as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
